DEAL - new holder springs for hatches
« on: September 23, 2012, 11:46:54 am »
I was in the West Marine Town Center (Jacksonville FL) today. They had spring hatch keepers on clearance for $14.77 each! The springs appear to be the same size as the ones used on CSYs. The keepers come with the mounting hardware attached; however, it looks like the mounting hardware can easily be removed and you can use your CSY mounting hardware (CSY mounting hardware appears to be much higher quality). The UPC code on the package was 0
I tried having a bad day once but I did not like it

Dave / Sherry,

The moonlight marine springs on my boat are 12.5"(+/- 1/4") long and the West Marine springs are also 12.5" long. I imagine the other measurement from West Marine is for the entire assembly.

I don't know about the quality of the stainless. Holding both springs side by side there is a striking resemblance. The plastic ends are a little different but that is about it.

I have seen these for @ $50 per spring. Not sure how much Moonlight sells them for.

Sorry for the delay, it has been a busy time for us, some of it w/o internet.

The hatch springs work fine.

Installed the large moonlite hatch spring from West Marine - exact replacement as existing - Working just fine. Need to replace the 90 degree plastic angle trim that supports the closed hatch spring forward.

I had to replace to of those heavy duty, original hatch springs on Magic Kingdom, CSY 44 walkover  '78.
Still available from Moonlite Marine in Costa Mesa. Much heavier than the cheap stuff now carried by West Marine. He sent me the ones with the cable inside; old ones did not have them. $27.70 each plus shipping to the East Coast. One of the last marine businesses left in Costa Mesa. He told me most of area is condos.
