Pulley for raw water pump
« on: July 01, 2013, 08:51:19 AM »
Not sure if this belongs in the swap meet or the engine category. Does anyone have a pulley for a Perkins 4.154 raw water pump they would like to sell? I need one for the water pump in my spare parts kit. I could use the same pulley for both pumps, however, I would like to have a complete spare ready to go. I have found that when the pump goes it is typically not in the best circumstances.

The problem with my spare pulley is a small piece on the inside of the pulley where the key meets the pulley broke off. This allows the pulley to slightly rock and push the key. Over time this causes the pulley to get more and more off and therefore push the key more. I have mitigated this with locktight on the key but I don't trust it. If you have a 4.154 you might want to check your pulley the next time you have it off.
I tried having a bad day once but I did not like it

Warren - my pulley attaches to the pump with a single nut with a key.

Ed - you would be my hero. I purchased all of the rebuild stuff for my spare pump. I just need a pulley.

Thanks

I had the same problem and got a machine shop to bore out the old damaged pulley and press fit a new hub. It was not cheap at $200 but beat the alternative of flying one in from wherever.

Ed,

What is the chance of you seeing this after a year and still having a pulley?

Broken down in Solomons Island MD and needing one badly!

Thanks

On a recent trip to the Bahamas, my original raw water pump pulley began to wobble at the hub and self destruct also.  Later, I found that Depco Pumps in St. Pete, FL carries an aluminum pulley for the Sherwood H-5 that will substitute for the original iron one.  Their price was about $250.  There were some other outfits that carried substitutes, but this one was a little less expensive.  Matthew
