Have you ever decided to take a hole saw and cut a hole, only to find that you made a mistake and drilled the hole to small?  Then get the proper size hole saw, remove the to small one  from the drill then install the proper hole saw on the drill.  Then take the small one that you made the wrong hole with and install it on the remaining threads of the drill.  Now the small hole saw will act as a guide for the proper size saw.

Excellent Idea Warren....use this method all the time here at the boatyard, for thru hull resizing ......Ed

Alternatively locate the piece you removed from the drill and glue it back in with 5 min epoxy and some silica.

You now have your guide back.

Bosch makes a hole saw arbor just for this purpose. About $15. It makes the inner hole saw stick out by half an inch or so, which makes aligning the holes much easier. ... 06_s00_i01
