Thank you Mike. My question is specific to the V Drive and the 33. If you reused your transmission and V Drive I would love to talk to you.

Engines and Drive Train / CSY 33 Repower

Has anyone replaced the engine in a 33 which had a Borg Warner V drive?  My existing Westerbeke is toast. If you’ve gone through this process I would like to talk to you. Thanks.

Cinnabar did fine in Fort Lauderdale.  Just a little "Break Dancing" in 100 mph winds.  It was moored with 8 lines and anchors leading back and forth across the canal.

Another way to quickly cut away rigging is with a hack saw, equipped with diamond impregnated blade.  The trick is to attack the turnbuckle, not the SS wire.  Its really easy.

You really should consider adding back the self tacking staysail boom.  While its true that it takes space, it is a really sweet set up for sailing short handed and quick tacking into harbors and tight spaces.  I also find that I have more latitude in sail adjustmemt.  Its a really good tool.  Dag Hanssen went the route you are thinking so if you look for photos of Rapsody you will see how he rigged the sheets.

Systems / Cabin Heaters

Thank you for the insight.  Do you have any photos of the installation you might post?  I am wondering about the deck penetration for the exhaust.  Yes baking does help!

I am considering installation of some type of diesel or propane powered heater in the cabin of my 33 so was wondering what advice you might offer: type, brand, installation tips, ect.  Thanks  Charlie

Underway / 33 Sail Configurations
« on: February 09, 2014, 08:55:01 pm »
I am curious as to the findings of fellow 33 owners that have experimented with sail configurations (type, size, weight, cloth, shape etc.  I will be in the market for a new suit of sails in the next year so wanted to see what you learned.  I am thinking: loose foot, full batten, two reef points, over sized roach, around 8oz main with 100% roller furled high cut head sail at 7 oz, a 8 oz loose footed staysail coupled with an asy spinnaker.  Also, what have you learned about trying to move the center of effort forward to reduce weather helm?

Lastly, I friggen love my CSY 33 Cinnabar.  Its still tougher than I am dumb.  Charlie
