General Discussion / Refit almost complete
« on: July 11, 2020, 01:25:14 pm »
Hello All,

Attached please find the photo of the Erie Queen (formally Buckeye Queen) finally sailing after extensive refit.

We started about 11 years ago working part time on her. She had sunk at the dock on the Potomac River in Washington DC before we purchased her and was then moved to Sandusky, OH on Lake Erie. Every system has been replaced including engine, electrical, plumbing all rigging, sails, etc., etc., etc. The interior, deck, bottom, etc., etc., etc. has been varnished, painted, barrier coated. Way too many things to list here. She is now ready for another 40+ years of sailing.

As many on this site know it is defiantly a labor of love and to go on the first sail, well you all know!!! This site and members have been a VERY valuable tool during this process.

Thanks to all that contribute and keep this site running.

Systems / Shore power inlet
« on: March 14, 2018, 04:44:26 pm »
Hello All,

The good news is spring is right around the corner!!!!

I have the wiring about 75% completed and have a simple question. Where does your shore power inlet come into the boat. My new location for the panels are right above the ice box. I just can not come up with a good location for the inlet receptacle.

Any thoughts????

Hull and Rig / Stay sail traveler parts
« on: November 13, 2017, 03:37:30 pm »
Hello All,

I am looking for the adjustable track stop for the stay sail traveler. One of mine is shot and it is not repairable. Checked with Rig-Rite and it is not available and the complete kit cost more than a complete new system. They were made by Nicro-Fico who is long out of business.

Any help would be appreciated.

Systems / Head sinks and shower drains
« on: September 26, 2016, 09:37:43 am »
Hello All,

I have worked up a plan for my head sinks and shower drains that I would like to run by you fellow CSY owners. Here it is:

1.   Glass in a partition in the forward part of the bilge well and add a lid with appropriate holes for the drain pipes and a cleanout hole as well.
2.   Add an external diaphragm pump controlled by an internal switch.
3.   The pump would be plumbed to an overboard thru hull.

Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

Engines and Drive Train / Fuel tank supplier
« on: February 24, 2016, 08:34:58 am »
Hello All,

I have just received the new fuel tanks for our refit. I found the original manufacturer and they are great to deal with. They had the original drawings and the new tanks are exactly like the old tanks. The gentleman I dealt with was Sam and he is a super nice guy.

I do have the old tanks if any one wants them (free), they are not leaking but one has some bad pitting on the back side. I decided I did not want to take a chance since I have everything already tore up.

Engines and Drive Train / Fuel tank repair vs replacement
« on: October 16, 2015, 09:22:05 am »
Hello all,

I just took my original fuel tanks to be checked and cleaned. I t looks like one of them may need repaired or replaced.

I have a couple of questions to those of you that have been there before:

1.   Repair vs replace
2.   Any good contacts for vender to make the new tanks?
3.   Has anyone eliminated one tank and went with only one 100 gallon tank? I would like the extra room for a storage cabinet? After removing the starboard water tank I really could make good use of the extra room as well.

As always thanks for the help.

Hull and Rig / Starboard water tank removal
« on: June 25, 2015, 08:13:40 am »
Hello All,

I am getting ready to rebuild and reinsulate my ice box. Thinking about removing the aft bulkhead for ice box to make it smaller. While I am at it I am thinking about removing the starboard water tank. My vision is I would have a bunch of room to add aft holding tank, smaller water tank, room for pumps, refrigeration compressors, etc, etc, etc.

Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hull and Rig / Flat spot under stove
« on: August 13, 2014, 08:06:23 am »
Good Day,

Can anyone tell me what the flat spot that is molded into the hull under the stove is for? I know it is something simple but I have no clue as my boat had the original stove removed.

Thanks,
Mike Z.

Interior / Saloon refit ideas needed
« on: December 15, 2013, 12:13:46 pm »
Hello All,

I am getting ready for the saloon refit part of our project this spring. I was hoping for some input on the following from all of you that have done a refit or have an idea after living with the existing saloon.

•   Refrigeration: After some research and talking to others I am seriously considering removing the existing ice box and rebuilding it. The thought is to reduce the size by 1/3 and get part of it out of the engine room. Then to build from the hull out with 4”-6” of closed cell insulation (pink or blue), along the curve basically build steps/shelves rather than a curved back. Line the interior with FRP and add a front opening along with the top access as well. I would then use two (2) compressors/evaporators for freezer and refrigeration. With two (2) systems we would always have a back up.

•   Galley: What to do with the existing trash storage? I am building a new table base that will house a tilt out trash/recyclable area so not sure how to configure the old trash space. Any other thoughts on galley set up are needed.

•   Settees: How thick are the cushions? Our boat did not have any cushions when we bought her. The darn settees seem very low for comfortable sitting.

Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year to all !!!

Mike Z.
