Looking to sell my 44WT.   Corian countertops, new stove, new batteries, solar, hard top. Yanmar 75hp. Less than 2000 hours. 2015 full batten main. Needs refrigeration, staysail, chainplates, rigging all due. Minor caprail damage from Hurricane Michael caused by slip piling. 60k form. 386-234-5297

Tips and Tricks / Tinting of portholes

We recently tinted all of our portholes and our main salon windows and it made an immense difference in heat and harsh glare.  One of the best small improvements we've made.  The interior is very soothing to the eyes even in the harshest sun, and you can sleep in a little later if the cocktails got out of hand the previous evening.

I've made some great progress in my close quarters docking for those who are interested.  My first mistake was assuming that my boat was like most and wanted to turn right, it turns left much better. The backing into my slip solution to my situation came from the dockmaster.  I put a rolling wheel on the floating dock corner and built a small 2ft pvc "fork" that held a line permanently affixed to the floating dock middle cleat and the line was ran to the tip of the dock.  The pvc "fork" was like a dock hand always ready and handing me the line at the far edge of the dock when we would pull perpendicular to the slip and just pick it up with a boat hook. I would then do a partial left turn and pull the dock line from my port quarter and easy peasy we would do short back and fills while pulling on the permanently attached dock line.  It worked like a charm.  I could even get the line around my port side winch if i had wind to contend with.

Not a lot of progress with the docking, last week we tried the piling pivot with no joy.  The piling is in alignment with the dock so I couldn't get the right angle,if the piling was further out than the dock, It would be OK.  We still had to recruit help to get into the slip.  I should add that the slip is to the right of the fairway.  Since my boat will turn "right" sharply, but not "left" the fact that I need to turn left to back into my slip SUCKS! I'm very close to just accepting that stern in isn't going to work, and I will be the rare boat that is bow in.(but a few are). The good news is, that since I'm afraid to take the boat out of the slip due to the frustration of getting it back in, I'm getting more projects done. At least she will look pretty sitting in the slip.

Thank you for the input, I watched a youtube video on the piling pivot that you mentioned Peter, and I believe that will be my solution assuming I don't hit the boat on the other side of that piling.  As far as Steve's comments with the same configuration, I can only turn "right" in a tight area and not "left" is that a true statement with the yanmar and maxprop? Since I'm just inside the t-head I'm tempted to back into the fairway, then pivot "right" with back and fill and then back in.  I don't see how else I can do it without pivoting on the piling.

Sheepishly I admit I am very nervous about getting in and out of my current slip.  For the first 2 years of ownership I enjoyed leaving the boat on a mooring and getting in and out was a breeze.  Then I borrowed Peter's slip for a short while and going "bow in" was not so bad.  Now I'm at a marina "stern in" and I've utilized some coaching from the dock master and his help on the dock with lines.  I'm still confused about the "backing and filling" that I've read about and my boat does not seem to respond the way "it should" according to the maneuvers.  I've got a yanmar, so it is a "RH" rotation motor and I've got a Maxprop.  Any specific guidance with backing into a slip would be appreciated.  Last time the dock master had me approach perpendicular to my slip and "lie against the outside piling on my starboard side and then he "pulled" me in by my port stern cleat with a line while I backed up gently.  Not sure how I would pull this off without him there. Any input would be great.

Systems / Batteries to start motor

I like the one battery bank option so all my charging resources are focused on a single goal, however, I also use the ACR automatic charging relay to use "spillover" voltage to charge a single emergency starting battery.  It never gets used, but always stays charged, and is just there for peace of mind.

Systems / REFRIGERATION SUGGESTIONS NEEDED

One more vote for the engel.  I've got one large engel that we use for a refer, but I will soon purchase the drop-in that will fit inside the salon table in my 44, for the freezer.  The engels are bulletproof, low amp draw, and relatively inexpensive, and they can pull double duty freeze/refer whenever you want them to.  Zero maintenance, and if it breaks, then just break out one more boat unit and get a brand new one. I have no idea why more people don't endorse this.  I love them.

Underway / Down Wind Sailing and trip Notes (long)

There is a csy 44 for sale right now ( don't remember where) that has two roller furlers side by side for dual headsails, I thought it was absolutely brilliant ( but again I'm a neophyte).  I imagined a yankee on one, and the genoa on the other and skip the whole pole/ asym/genaker/ wing on wing business.  Great flexibility, and many problems solved.  Any thoughts?

Engines and Drive Train / Folding/Feathering props

I've got a 3 blade maxprop, the PO said that the before/after difference was substantial when moving from the fixed blade to maxprop.  Reverse is great, but it does require some maintenance.  When I pulled the shaft last year, pulling the maxprop apart and reassembling it was a little complicated, but good videos are available online.  I did have mine "stick" in a partially feathered position while at anchor for a long time.  I had no power in forward or reverse until I dove on it and freed it up so it would move correctly. Needs to be greased annually.  Overall I'm pretty happy, but it is another maintenance item.
