Engines and Drive Train / Solenoid on CSY 33
« on: October 10, 2019, 10:33:27 AM »
Perkins 4.108:  Where is the solenoid located? I can't find a mention of it in the engine manual. Forum mentions a solenoid, but I am so clueless as to where to look. The main problem is the starter button feels loose, but before I change it, research indicated the problem could be the solenoid. Now I can't find the solenoid.

Systems / Head help for CSY 33
« on: October 08, 2019, 11:40:05 AM »
After two days of troubleshooting on my own, I need help.

1.  Exactly how much, if any of the joker valve should be showing between the flanges? (pix #1)
2.  Does a schematic exist for routing the hoses for a CSY 33? From the other pix, you can see one hose goes into the wall. Then, where? Do I
have to cut out the wall to follow it? (pix #2-1674)

It may be easier if you can email me at       My internet is acting up and I can't post both pictures.

Interior / Re: Door for head
« on: August 08, 2019, 09:11:05 PM »
Silly me. Yipe I am the culprit for door sticking. It was a stupid mistake. For details see my blog:
Thankfully, my sailing go-to friend, Mike, ground the hinges off the door. Anyone want a door? Really a curtain will work just fine, weigh less and might even make the boat interior look a little softer.
I appreciate those who made suggestions...I did try to undo the hatch but my hand isn't small enough or long enough to reach across the narrow amount it opened.

Systems / Re: Autopilot
« on: August 08, 2019, 08:49:50 PM »
I am getting ready to purchase an autopilot. One comment by the owner of a CSY 33 states:
"They are definitely undersized for a 33 with a severe weather helm."  How can that be if the same unit powers a CSY 44. I like the idea of having a spare, so if anyone has an older one at a good price (cheap) I am interested. I'd like to get underway in November...

Interior / Re: Door for head

Thanks Matt, I was able to take off the hinges on the hatch. It doesn’t open wide enough to get my hand/arm inside to unhook the hinge or the dogs. The screw on the door know turns  but not enough to get the screw out. Can I use a drill to drill out the screw on the doorknob? When this opens you can be sure the whole door is coming off... this is crazy.

Interior / Door for head

The door for the head has stuck itself closed. The hatch in the head is dogged down because we were sailing. When we got back to the dock I tried to open the door. It is stuck shut. The door knob will only turn about 20 degrees to the right or left. No one was inside. I don’t recall a way to lock the door from the inside. Any ideas? My boat is a CSY 33.

General Discussion / cleaning the bilge
« on: June 21, 2019, 05:55:19 PM »
The sooner I get to taking my CSY 33 for a sail the more little things concern me. My bilge has about 1 -2 inches of dirty oily water in the bottom. There are 3 different size pumps. The pumps and hose configurations that pass through the bilge area make it difficult to get a sponge down there to soak up the nasty fluid. I know a little water is considered normal. Still, on this 40 year old boat it seems time to get the yuk out.

I put a one inch thick sponge on the end of a grabber. That works but it is a long process as the sponge can only soak up a tiny, tiny bit at a time. The bilge is 47 inches deep so no way my arm can reach down there. I'm afraid to try my small 12 v wet/dry vac because the nasty water might forever stay in the hose....Any ideas????

Systems / shower sump
« on: June 21, 2019, 03:27:21 PM »
New Project: Finding the sump for the shower. There is a button that I can press and hear the motor. Due to a clogged hose water collected on the floor. Thanks to advice to use baking soda and vinegar, the hose cleared itself. I was able to see the water slower go down the hose. I pushed the motor button and sluuuurrrrrp all the water on the floor got sucked down the drain.

Now, my question is: Where is the sump? I have a CSY 33. I looked in the bilge, looked in the cubby in the head where the thru hulls, and diverter to holding tank is. But where oh where is the sum?

Interior / Bronze locker door hatches
« on: June 19, 2019, 01:05:31 PM »
With consideration for Ed Marill's post in October 2018, an update at Seafarer is in order. I was recently at their store and they are unable to locate the hatches in bronze. Being within a mile of their warehouse I stop in about once a week. So far, no luck.
Maybe, just maybe another CSY owner has an extra set or two of such latches. I need two in order to coordinate with the other hatches...
Thank you.

Hull and Rig / Installing New Life Lines
« on: May 15, 2019, 07:24:16 PM »
What suggestions can someone provide about installing new life lines myself? I have limited manual skills, but think I can handle this project. According to West Marine's website they will cut to length the sizes I need provided I bring them the old ones. Also, what about using dyneema? Thank you.

Swap Meet / Folding Bicycle
« on: March 08, 2019, 10:57:21 PM »
I am looking for advice on a foldable bicycle.  I want it for biking around town and boat yards. It will be stored in my van. I have a regular mountain style bicycle that takes up too much room. Any thoughts on foldable bikes -  Thank you.

I expect to get her going in a few months. She needs some bottom and rudder work. Always good to hear from you!

When I click on the link for the map I get an error message saying Google doesn't know about the map.
