Title: Key West and the Dry Tortugas
Post by: Rhapsody on May 06, 2012, 11:48:45 AM
We are headed down there the 14 th of May, 2012.
It will probably take us 3 to 4 days to get to Key West, then hang out for another 3 or 4 days
before we set sail for the Dry Tortugas.

Any other CSYs in Key West?
Any advice on places to anchor around the Dry Tortugas, or is mooring balls mandatory?

Dag,

I wish I could say my 33 will be there but, no such luck.

We've been out to the Dry Tortugas several times.

I wouldn't anchor off Garden Key with the other boats this time of year. It is nesting season for the birds there and they are extremely loud 24 hours a day. Looking at your charts, anchor on the south side of the fort, outside the entrance channel in the deeper water. Less noise and easier sleeping.

Thanks for the info. We ended up turning left instead and sailed to the Bahamas. Got a nice weather window for crossing the gulf stream and just jumped on it.
The Dry Tortugas is still on the list of things to do and could happen next year.
